In the village of Pîrîta, Dubăsari district, a large-scale afforestation initiative was carried out over an area of  3.5 hectares. The event was organized by the Grigoropol Forestry Office, led by Petru Burlaca, in collaboration with the Dubasari Environmental Protection Inspectorate, represented by Vitalie Chirilov. The Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM) actively participated in the event, alongside the Faculty of Information Technologies and Economic Statistics (TISE), represented by Dean Zinovia Toaca and Vice-Dean Olga Chicu.

A distinctive element of the initiative was the integration of digital technologies, coordinated by the IT4BA Innovation Incubator, managed by Svetlana Ghetmancenco. This enabled the involvement of innovative companies specializing in precision agriculture.

Drone Assistens used agricultural drones for terrain mapping and spraying demonstrations, optimizing the planting process. Meanwhile, iFarms (EuroAlun) installed IoT sensors, smart traps, and weather stations, providing modern solutions for soil moisture monitoring, early pest detection, and seedling growth tracking. These technologies are essential for efficient plantation management and increasing the success rate of reforestation.

The event brought together students and professors from ASEM, along with pupils from the ASEM National College of Commerce and the high school in Doroțcaia village. Approximately 4,000 trees were planted, including Canadian poplar and white poplar.

This activity is part of Moldova’s national afforestation campaign, aligned with the National Strategy for Forest Expansion and Rehabilitation (Government Decision No. 55/2023), which aims to increase the national forest area and reduce the impact of climate change.

The Grigoropol Forestry Office provided participants with shovels, gloves, and water, and the event concluded with a traditional fish soup. The atmosphere was filled with enthusiasm and engagement, highlighting the importance of collaboration between authorities, academia, and technological innovation for sustainable and effective reforestation.
